MCS-150 Update

What Is the MCS-150 Form and Who Needs It?
The MCS-150 form is a federally required document issued by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). It is used to apply for, update, reactivate, or deactivate a USDOT Number, as required under 49 CFR § 390.19.

According to 49 CFR § 390.19, every motor carrier operating in interstate commerce must file the MCS-150:

  • When first obtaining a USDOT Number

  • Every two years as part of the Biennial Update

  • Whenever there are changes to business or fleet operations

Failure to comply can lead to enforcement actions, including daily fines up to $1,000 and deactivation of your USDOT Number.

When To File

Biennial

The FMCSA requires an MCS-150 filing at least once every two years.

Business Change

Anytime your pertinent information changes about your business. 

Status Change

An MCS-150 update is required if your business needs to adjust your status or authority.
